The Harm Reduction International Conference will be held in Melbourne in 2023 in partnership with AIVL and other harm reduction service providers.
We are delighted that Harm Reduction International has announced that they will be holding their biennial international conference – HR23 – in Melbourne, in partnership with the Australian Injecting and Illicit Drug Users League (AIVL), the Australasian Society for HIV, Viral Hepatitis and Sexual Health Medicine (ASHM), Harm Reduction Victoria (HRVIC) and the International Network on Hepatitis in Substance Users (INHSU).
The conference will convene activists, researchers, campaigners, policymakers, people who use drugs, human rights experts, health professionals, sex workers and many more for 2023’s largest international harm reduction event.
This partnership will support local, national and international harm reduction advocacy, research and learning, emphasising the continuing opioid overdose crisis, changing trends in drug use, responses to stimulant use, and to elevate local, Indigenous and rural voices, and centre the experiences of people who use drugs.
The Australian bid team put a case that we can provide an extraordinary showcase of harm reduction services to the international community and that the conference will also provide an amazing opportunity to consolidate and build on policy and program successes both in Australia and across the region.
From AIVL’s perspective it will also provide a wonderful platform to promote and facilitate greater awareness of and linkages between the National BBV and STI and Drug Strategy processes, priorities and their implementation moving forward.
This has been a fairly significant undertaking for AIVL and its partner organisations and we are confident that it will provide a great opportunity for all of us to progress our shared priorities and goals.
We look forward to seeing everyone at the conference in Melbourne, Australia, at the Melbourne Conference and Exhibition Centre on 16–19 April, 2023.
